What is the Accelerated Release Technique?
A plain-English guide
If you've landed here, you've probably either heard the term "Accelerated Release Technique" somewhere and want to understand it, or you're searching for something that goes deeper than what you've tried so far.
Either way, this is the most straightforward explanation I can give you.
I'll cover what ART is, who created it, how a session actually works, what it helps with, and how it fits into the broader landscape of subconscious and healing work. I'll also tell you honestly whether I think it might be right for you.
TLDR: The short version
The Accelerated Release Technique (ART) is a healing modality that works with the subconscious mind to identify and permanently release the root causes of physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual distress.
In plain language: your subconscious is holding something that is generating a symptom in your life, an anxiety, a pattern, a physical response, a ceiling you keep hitting. ART finds it and releases it, so the symptom no longer has a source to draw from.
Not managed. Released.
Who created it?
ART was developed by Renu Arora, a Canadian energy healer, author, and teacher based in Mississauga, Ontario. Renu approached energy healing not as a believer but as a rigorous student; she spent years studying what worked, why it worked, and how to make it consistent and repeatable.
The result is a structured, precise technique that can be taught, learned, and applied systematically, rather than relying on intuition or natural gifts alone.
Renu published her research and the principles behind ART in The Energy Healing Bible. She also trains a small number of certified practitioners globally. There are currently only a handful of certified ART practitioners in the world.
I am one of them, the first in Australia.
Why do we stay stuck?
To understand why ART works, it helps to understand what it's working with.
The premise of ART is that the subconscious mind creates distress, anxiety, a physical symptom, a repeating pattern, an emotional response that seems disproportionate, as a signal. Not a malfunction. A message. Something unresolved is asking to be addressed.
Most healing approaches address the signal. Therapy helps you understand it. Medication reduces it. Coaching works around it. Even many energy modalities manage it. ART addresses what's generating it in the first place.
When you release the root cause, the signal no longer has a purpose. It stops.
This is why ART results are often immediate and lasting rather than incremental and ongoing. You're not learning to cope better with something. You're removing the thing that you adjusted your life in order to cope.
What happens in a session?
An ART session is conversational and collaborative. Nothing is done to you; you are an active participant throughout, we work together through the process; what that process looks like is different for each person.
Here's the general shape:
We start with what's present. What are you carrying right now? What feels stuck, heavy, or unresolvable? We identify what you've come with, not to analyse it endlessly, but to use it as an entry point.
We follow the thread. Using the ART process, we access the subconscious to find where the pattern or feeling originates. You are fully conscious throughout; this isn't hypnosis. It's more like a guided excavation, following the logic of your own subconscious until we reach the root.
We release it. The root cause is addressed energetically, completely, and permanently. Most clients notice something shift during the session itself, a lightness, a sense of resolution, sometimes something quite significant.
We integrate. The closing portion of the session is about what comes next. What is now available to you that wasn't before? What do you do with the open space?
Sessions are conducted online via Zoom.
One note: ART doesn't always require that you consciously understand what's released. Sometimes what's been holding you back has nothing to do with your conscious memory; it may be an inherited pattern, an ancestral agreement, or something from beyond this lifetime. You don't need to remember or understand it for it to be released. The subconscious knows where it is.
What is ART useful for?
Anything that has roots in the subconscious, which is most things that keep repeating or resisting change.
The most common things I work with:
Anxiety that persists despite understanding it
Patterns in relationships that keep repeating regardless of who the other person is
A sense of being stuck or unable to move forward, even when circumstances change
Self-sabotage, procrastination, and difficulty following through
Fears and phobias
Grief that won't lift
Physical symptoms, chronic pain, food sensitivities, intolerances, with no clear physical explanation
Limiting beliefs that feel true even when you know intellectually they aren't
Business plateaus and blocks around money, visibility, or worthiness
Decisions you've been circling for months that should be straightforward
How is ART different from other approaches?
From therapy: Therapy works primarily with what you can consciously remember and articulate. ART accesses material below conscious recall, the original experience, not just your memory of it. Many clients come to ART after years of therapy, not because therapy failed, but because they've reached its natural ceiling.
From kinesiology: Kinesiology uses muscle testing to identify and correct imbalances. It's effective but largely practitioner-led. In ART, you are an active participant; you leave knowing what was cleared and why, not just that something shifted.
From reiki or general energy healing: Reiki channels healing energy to restore balance. It can create real relief. ART is more targeted; we're not balancing energy broadly; we're finding and releasing something specific. The difference between a general tonic and a precision instrument.
Is this for you?
ART works best for people who:
Are willing to be active participants in their own healing rather than passive recipients
Have done personal development work and feel like they've plateaued
Want to shift something, not just understand it better
Have a sense that something is being held; they just don't know how to reach it
It's not passive, and it's not for everyone. But if you're the kind of person who is done managing and ready to change, this is probably worth a conversation.
